Your Body Is the Messenger

Your body's language for what it has been holding on your behalf.

Your Body Is the Messenger

One letter every Wednesday, for founders and leaders, on what strategy cannot reach.

A CEO I worked with had her whole body start to shut down on her.

She was literally falling asleep during the important meetings, and she thought something was wrong with her body. She went and checked with doctors, and the results came out that she had no problem except the cortisol level that was unusually high. She went on a journey to find what was happening, and that is when she met me. She thought she was managing her busy life well, but the burnout had gone past tiredness. Two weeks of vacation would not make it go away, and every time she tried to sleep, she would be bombarded by a million thoughts and wake up a couple of times during the night.

When the shallow sleep and the coffee reached their limits, her body made the decision for her to stop.

Most accomplished people I work with know some version of this, more or less, at some point in their career, because leaders endure emotional and physical pain and consider it normal, a part of running a successful business, a career, or an empire. The shoulders that will not come down during the big quarter, or the stomach that knots on Sunday night. And we treat these as breakdowns, the body failing us at the wrong moment, something to push through, because pushing through is what has always worked, or we treat the symptoms.

Your body is wanting to collaborate with you.

It was never against you. It held the old programs, struggles, and beliefs. And when holding stopped working, it spoke louder until she had to listen.

The body is the messenger. The symptoms are only a mere form of communication, your body's language for what it has been holding on your behalf. Once you release what it has been carrying, the message is complete, and the body settles.

And the language is more specific than we assume, because the body speaks in locations. The shoulders speak about responsibility, which is why the weight of the results of this quarter lands exactly there. The tightening in the upper belly usually means you have not been exercising your power and talents to the fullest, and there is something that needs to be released. In private sessions, the place that is speaking shows me where to look, and while the baseline of the translation is consistent, you are in communication with and informed by your own body.

Letters like this one land every Wednesday morning.

This week, ask the body and not the brain.

When the discomfort shows up, the tight chest before the call, the shoulders, the stomach, pause for one minute and put your attention right where you feel it. Then ask it directly: where is this coming from? Settle your brain and let the answer emerge from your body and heart. You are not fixing anything in that minute, you are listening, and what is ready to release will come to the surface.

Then, if you want to complete the release, talk to your body and ask what you can do to help.

The deeper layer of this work is energetic. Thoughts and energy feed off of one another, and when thoughts are bombarding you in the middle of the night, the root solution is always energetic. What the body holds has a root, and finding that root and releasing it there, so the energy returns to full and the body stops needing to carry the message, is the work I do with clients directly. However, knowing and acknowledging the years of burdens is the start of the journey to free up your body to receive more newness into your life. Because your body is not only the messenger, it is also the vehicle, a system more advanced than anything I helped build in eighteen years of computing systems for the world's largest companies, and it is built to materialize who you came here to be. Everything it releases becomes room for the new.

When you allow yourself to release the suffering and create your life and your business from pleasure, every aspect of your life starts to restore. For the CEO who was falling asleep in her meetings, her body's decision became exactly that kind of opening, the beginning of deeply knowing herself and exploring her own soul. Your body already knows how to return to its natural state, and it has been wanting to collaborate with you all along. You can let it, starting now.
